John W Armstrong Elementary

Summary:

John W Armstrong Elementary is a high-performing public elementary school in Sachse, Texas, serving 759 students in grades PK-5 as part of the Garland Independent School District.

John W Armstrong Elementary consistently ranks among the top 15% of Texas elementary schools, with exceptional academic performance that significantly outpaces the district and state averages. The school's STAAR test scores show that 70-80% of students meet or exceed proficiency in reading and math, with particularly strong results in 5th-grade reading and science. The school's diverse student population includes a lower percentage of economically disadvantaged students compared to the district, yet it still manages to excel across all student subgroups, including English Language Learners and Gifted and Talented students.

This consistent high performance over the past 10 years is a testament to the school's effective teaching, targeted interventions, and focus on equity and inclusion.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote This school is one of the most mismanaged entities we have ever encountered. Our child has been pulled through the ringer here and we cannot wait until we're in a position to leave this wretched place- all parents beware.

The teaching staff is a mess and so is the principal. We looked up this school and read the reviews and though we would be in good hands but reality hit us hard - stay away. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
