Jean McClung Middle has a significantly higher percentage of African American (54.38%) and Hispanic (36.72%) students compared to the surrounding schools, which tend to have more diverse racial compositions. The school consistently ranks in the bottom 10% of Texas middle schools, with 0 out of 5 stars from SchoolDigger, and its performance on STAAR tests is significantly lower than the district and state averages across all grade levels and subject areas. Jean McClung Middle also has higher dropout rates, ranging from 0.8% to 4.3%, which are above the district and state averages. Additionally, the school has an extremely high percentage of students (over 90%) receiving free or reduced-price lunch, indicating a high level of economic disadvantage among the student population.

When comparing Jean McClung Middle to nearby schools in the same district, such as Forest Oak Middle and James Middle, it is clear that Jean McClung Middle is underperforming significantly. These nearby schools have higher academic performance, lower dropout rates, and more diverse student populations. The high percentage of economically disadvantaged students and the school's low ranking within the Fort Worth Independent School District and the state of Texas may indicate that Jean McClung Middle is facing significant challenges related to resource allocation, teacher quality, and student support services, which likely contribute to the school's poor academic outcomes.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote The students at this school learn a lot, none of which has to do with academics. They learn how to be bullied, how to fight, how to be ignored by teachers, how to be rude and loud, and how to survive doing the minimum that's required in life. I am very disappointed about this school year experience. The administration doesn't support parent involvement ie no response to calls/emails and hour long waiting periods to meet with the principal. Many fights daily, kids skipping, gang affiliation. No lessons can be taught because classrooms can't be controlled so passing grades are given to the majority with no advancement in learning schoolwork. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
