Maudrie Walton Elementary

Summary:

Maudrie Walton Elementary is a public elementary school in Fort Worth, Texas, serving 289 students from pre-kindergarten to 5th grade. The school is part of the Fort Worth Independent School District, which is ranked 783 out of 968 districts in Texas and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Maudrie Walton Elementary faces significant challenges in improving academic achievement for its students. The school has consistently underperformed the district and state averages in STAAR test scores, with only 27.78% of 3rd-graders reaching proficiency in reading, compared to the district's 32.84% and the state's 48.85%. Additionally, the school has an extremely high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 92.73% to 99% over the past three school years, indicating a high level of economic disadvantage among the student population. While the school's spending per student has increased, this has not translated into improved academic performance.

Interestingly, the nearby schools, such as A M Pate Elementary, Sagamore Hill Elementary, and Eastern Hills Elementary, generally outperform Maudrie Walton Elementary in terms of test scores and overall school rankings, despite being part of the same district and serving similar demographics. This suggests that there may be opportunities to learn from the practices and strategies employed by these higher-performing schools to address the persistent challenges faced by Maudrie Walton Elementary.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote We made a serious mistake when we allowed our son to go to this school. The new principal has actually brought the test scores down. We don't even know how that could be possible. No discipline in the halls or classrooms. We wish we knew what we could do to help, but from what we've seen outside help is not wanted. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
