Eastern Hills High School

Summary:

Eastern Hills High School is a public high school in Fort Worth, Texas, serving 1,194 students in grades 9-12. The school is part of the Fort Worth Independent School District, which is ranked 783 out of 968 districts in the state and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Despite its relatively small student population, Eastern Hills High School faces significant academic and socioeconomic challenges. The school consistently ranks in the bottom 10-15% of Texas high schools, with proficiency rates on STAAR End-of-Course exams ranging from just 3% to 55.79% across different subject areas. The school's four-year graduation rate has been between 72.1% and 77.8% in recent years, lower than the state and district averages, and its dropout rate has ranged from 4.6% to 7.1%, which is higher than the norm. Additionally, over 90% of Eastern Hills' students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, indicating a high level of economic disadvantage.

Interestingly, when analyzing the performance of different racial subgroups at Eastern Hills, the school's Asian and White students perform significantly better than their African American and Hispanic peers, whose rankings are in the bottom 50% of Texas high schools. Nearby schools like Carter-Riverside High School and Dunbar High School face similar challenges, but some schools in the Fort Worth ISD, such as Im Terrell Academy for STEM and VPA and Young Men's Leadership Academy, demonstrate significantly better academic outcomes, suggesting that the issues at Eastern Hills may be addressable with the right interventions and support.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote School is what you make it. With an attitude like the student that posted, it will always be hard to change the culture of a school like this. Personally I love the school. Great support staff and enthusiastic students. If more students would start addressing the "rude/ ghetto" behavior rather than running from the issues that they face on a day to day basis, communities would change. Hats off to the faculty and staff of EHHS. They are diligently doing a work that many others in that community run from. Close Quote

Open Quote I went to this school for a year and from experience it was terrible! The kids are ghetto, rude ,and a lot of them don’t care about school (hence the low test scores
I don't recommend going here. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
