Logan Elementary

Summary:

Logan Elementary is a public elementary school located in El Paso, Texas, serving grades PK-5 with a student population of 587. The school is part of the El Paso Independent School District, which is ranked 610 out of 968 districts in Texas and has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger.

While Logan Elementary has a more diverse student population compared to nearby schools, with higher percentages of White, African American, and students of two or more races, its academic performance, as measured by STAAR test scores, lags behind the district and state averages across most grade levels and subjects. For example, in 2023-2024, only 23.91% of 3rd graders were proficient or better in STAAR Reading, compared to 48.65% for the district and 48.85% for the state. However, Logan Elementary has a relatively low student-teacher ratio, ranging from 11.2 to 14.8 over the past three years, which is lower than most of the nearby schools. The school also has a high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 79.54% to 87.9% over the past three years, indicating a high level of economic disadvantage among the student population.

Logan Elementary's statewide ranking has steadily declined over the past decade, from 2,277 out of 4,260 Texas elementary schools in 2013-2014 to 3,970 out of 4,675 in 2023-2024, with a consistent 1-star rating from SchoolDigger. While the school's performance is generally lower than the district and state averages, some nearby schools, such as Whitaker Elementary and Clendenin Elementary, have significantly higher academic achievement, suggesting that factors beyond just the district and school demographics may be contributing to the differences in performance. Logan Elementary's high percentage of economically disadvantaged students and lower academic performance suggest that the school may benefit from targeted interventions and support to help improve student outcomes.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote If your child has special needs than you need to stay away from this school. I could write a book on how horrible things were for our son. From the top, the principal is burnt out, unprofessional, frumpy, apathetic. If your child is in the process of testing for their special needs, good luck. The diagnostician will make you jump through hoops of fire and give you every excuse in the book not to get your child what they need. Safety there? What safety? If your child wanders then you need to be extra cautious, they will let your child run off and talking to the military police or administration will do little. Of course there are some caring staff there but let me just throw a word of caution to those who look at ratings and reviews, this is not where you want to be. On another note, if you are told to go here and your child has so many needs and El Paso is not for you, you need to investigate further, EFMP is backed up in certain areas and diving deeper will reveal that. Hopefully you can bypass El Paso altogether. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
