Tradition Elementary

Summary:

Tradition Elementary is an elementary school located in San Antonio, Texas, serving grades PK-5 with a student population of 993. The school is part of the East Central Independent School District, which is ranked 862 out of 968 districts in Texas and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Tradition Elementary faces significant challenges in academic performance, with consistently low rankings and proficiency rates on state assessments, particularly in mathematics and science. The school's performance on STAAR assessments is significantly below the state and district averages, with only 25.34% of 3rd graders proficient or better in reading and just 14.38% of 3rd graders proficient or better in math, compared to state averages of 48.85% and 40.86%, respectively. The school's high percentage of students from low-socioeconomic backgrounds, at 50.65%, and a relatively high student-teacher ratio may be contributing factors to its underperformance.

Comparison to nearby schools, such as Oak Crest Elementary, La Vernia Intermediate, and Idea Converse Academy, suggests that Tradition Elementary has room for improvement to better serve its diverse student population and close achievement gaps. These nearby schools generally outperform Tradition Elementary on academic measures, with higher proficiency rates on STAAR assessments and higher statewide rankings.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote One of the teacher's aides was too rough with my special needs son leaving him with bruises on his arm. I no longer felt safe sending him here. After the CPS case closed some of the staff became very cold and petty towards me and they sent my son away to another school. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
