McNair Elementary

Summary:

McNair Elementary is a public elementary school in Denton, Texas, serving students from pre-kindergarten to 5th grade as part of the Denton Independent School District. With a diverse student population, McNair Elementary consistently ranks in the top 25% of Texas elementary schools, boasting strong academic performance, particularly in reading and mathematics.

McNair Elementary's STAAR test scores significantly outperform the district and state averages, with 62.65% of 3rd graders, 55.79% of 4th graders, and 65.98% of 5th graders scoring proficient or better in reading, and 52.27% of 3rd graders, 61.05% of 4th graders, and 62.63% of 5th graders scoring proficient or better in mathematics. The school's African American and White students consistently perform better than their peers in the district and state, while the performance of Hispanic students and students from low socioeconomic backgrounds is more mixed. McNair's relatively low student-teacher ratio and higher per-student spending may contribute to its strong academic outcomes.

Compared to nearby schools within the Denton Independent School District, such as Pecan Creek Elementary and Borman Elementary, McNair Elementary outperforms in STAAR test scores, particularly in reading and mathematics. However, when compared to schools outside the district, like Hilltop Elementary in the Argyle Independent School District, McNair's academic performance is not as strong, potentially due to differences in student demographics and resource allocation.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote There are have been three instances when I have not appreciated the teachers or its principle. This year, I am not fond of the teacher as I find it hard to get her to respond. For example, the kids are currently working on a star test practice, three weeks ago, I sent her an email asking her to please let me know how my son did and she replied with, I will send you the results when I have graded them and we have gone over them next week. Okay, two weeks later, nothing! My son comes home and tells me his grade and asks for my help... okay sure! I send her another email and she basically did not offer to make a copy and just told me that they keep those at school to go over with the kids. Okay, I said fine, when can I come up to the school and review it myself and she finally responds with I will send a copy home. A few years ago I had a problem with a teacher and basically went to the school board about it because the principle has no emotional intelligence. This time, I am considering talking to the assistant and asking her advice on how to handle this situation. This is not the first time I have and this problem. She is not a bad teacher, just young and I am not 100 percent confident in her abilities. I am a concerned parent and I advocate for my kid. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
