Post Elementary

Summary:

Post Elementary is a public elementary school in Houston, Texas, serving 868 students in grades PK-5. It is part of the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District (CFISD), which is ranked 363 out of 968 districts in Texas and has a 3-star rating.

Post Elementary has a diverse student population, with 50.35% Hispanic, 24.65% African American, 17.05% White, and 4.03% Asian students. Academically, the school's performance on STAAR tests is generally on par with or slightly below the district and state averages. However, there are significant disparities in performance between different student subgroups, with White students performing well but English Language Learners, Special Education students, and Hispanic students performing below average compared to their peers statewide. The school also has a high percentage (72.35%) of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, indicating a relatively high proportion of economically disadvantaged students.

Interestingly, Post Elementary's statewide ranking has declined over the past several years, from a high of 625 out of 4,320 Texas elementary schools in 2014-2015 to 1,805 out of 4,675 in 2023-2024. This suggests the school may be struggling to maintain its academic performance compared to other schools in the state. Additionally, some nearby schools, such as Hairgrove Elementary and Gleason Elementary, have significantly higher academic achievement, particularly in reading and math, indicating potential opportunities for Post Elementary to learn from their practices and strategies.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Post is a toxic place which views students as numbers and fails to use best teaching practices. My son had nothing but constant drills and practice sheets. Where are the projects? Research? Creative collaboration? Not at Post.

Physically, Post is a depressing place. Walk down any hallway and crying children can be heard. The bathrooms are filthy. The classrooms chaotic. Both teachers and students look distressed. Why are the children walking in lines like it's a prison? Why is the principal always frowning? Administration just nods and keeps doing what they want. Parent input is not valued.

Be cautioned that this school permits the open display of Christmas trees and Easter decorations throughout the hallways and inside many teacher classrooms. It can be overwhelming for children who are not Christian. We have addressed the bias with the District and have been told that "racism is more important than anti-Semitism". Tread carefully. In our case, we transferred our boys to Harmony. Much safe. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
