Dallas Park Elementary has faced significant academic challenges, with its statewide ranking fluctuating between 1,941 out of 4,260 Texas elementary schools in 2013-2014 to 3,865 out of 4,675 in 2023-2024, and a 1-2 star rating from SchoolDigger. The school's performance on STAAR tests has been consistently below the state and district averages in most subject areas and grade levels, particularly in mathematics and science. Interestingly, the school's English Language Learner (ELL) students have performed relatively well, ranking 204 out of 3,487 Texas elementary schools in reading in 2021-2022, while its special education and gifted and talented students have struggled.

The school's high percentage of students from low-socioeconomic backgrounds, with 71.73% qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch, may be a contributing factor to its academic challenges. Nearby schools within the Crowley Independent School District, such as June W Davis Elementary and J A Hargrave Elementary, have generally outperformed Dallas Park Elementary on STAAR assessments and have higher statewide rankings, potentially due to serving student populations with lower percentages of low-income and minority students.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I absolutely don't like this school. Out of all the teachers they have they only have one good teacher, she is a second grade teacher and is the best. As far as the school, they don't seem to care. I have two that go to the school and I'm looking into transferring them to a different district. I seem to be teaching my third grader at home more then they are teaching him at school. When he comes home he has papers to correct and when we sit down to do them I find that some of his answers are correct. His teacher is just marking them as incorrect. If a parent is thinking about sending their child to this school please look into another school. We have had problems not only with teachers but other students as well. Bulling at this school is ridiculous. Mine gets picked on because he takes his time picking out a book or because he can't jump rope fast. The only good thing about this school is that one teacher. Open Quote Last year was my daughter's first year of school (Sept., 2010, kindergarten) and she loved it. This was her first experience in American schools and her transition was seamless. The teacher provided me with constant feedback; she was accessible and I felt very comfortable with her style and interaction with the kids. The reason I didn't score the school a 5 - I am concerned with how the school administers instruction to the younger children on handling bullying. The kids are told not to "tattle" but at the same time they are instructed to tell an adult if they are picked on by another kid. This can be quite confusing...and was something I had to walk my daughter through. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
