Town Center Elementary

Summary:

Town Center Elementary is a public elementary school in Coppell, Texas, serving 456 students in grades PK-5 and part of the highly-ranked Coppell Independent School District (ISD).

Town Center Elementary is a high-performing school, consistently ranking among the top elementary schools in Texas with strong academic achievement, particularly for its female, male, Asian, and special education students. The school's STAAR test scores in reading, math, and science are generally higher than the state and district averages. However, the school's performance for African American, Hispanic, and low socioeconomic status (SES) students is relatively weaker, suggesting the need to address potential achievement gaps. Interestingly, Town Center Elementary's academic performance is stronger than nearby Lakeside Elementary and Pinkerton Elementary, but its performance for low SES students is weaker compared to some other nearby schools like Riverchase Elementary and Wilson Elementary.

Town Center Elementary has a diverse student population, with a significant Asian student population (over 40%) that is higher than the nearby schools and the state average. The school's strong performance for Asian and White students, coupled with its relatively weaker performance for African American and Hispanic students, suggests the need to further investigate and address any potential achievement gaps. Additionally, the school's statewide ranking has fluctuated over the years, indicating the need to closely monitor its performance and identify areas for improvement, particularly for its low SES and multi-racial student populations.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote You seem to give a lot of weight to the student/teacher ratio and your facts are dead wrong. The numbers you report are at least a decade old. Town Center fills its classrooms to maximum capacity. The principal sends letters home informing parents that they have added another student to bring the class over state capacity laws and has the nerve to state, "This in no way effects your child". About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
