As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I am a grandparent of several children that have been enrolled at Wilson Elementary School in the CISD. My first grandchild excelled at Wilson and his middle school then failed miserably for his first year at a Jesuit High School. My second grandchild, now an 8th grader in parochial school will do well in spite of the quality of education he receives. My youngest grandchild is having problems at Wilson. His school special education department has diagnosed him as dyslexic. I suggest you read
dr. Hilde Mosse's Complete Handbook of Reading Disorders. Dyslexia can result in poor initial reading instruction in the primary grades, something I believe the school should carefully examine. While I appreciate the intent of the STAAR program, beginning to test in third grade is not sufficient in tracking individual school performance. You need to carefully examine your primary reading program and switch to a multi sensory program that includes emphasis on teaching the code of the language (including phonics. I suggest looking carefully at how much and what you teach at the school. I have visited the school several times and believe you could improve the program by more carefully managing instruction, including the amount of time devoted to reading and language arts, particularly in the primary grades. Parents should not have to hire tutors to provide remediation services to children who have not been able to participate in proven programs in the early grades. I suggest you carefully review the research and programs that have been proven to create high academic achievement. The culture of Wilson is very nice and teachers seem to care. However, how do you explain lost in school ranking of 194 positions in one year. Historically Wilson was 58th ranked in Texas in 2004, but ranked 856th in 2021. I understand that there are other variables that could influence the slide in ranking. However, if I were the administrator I would begin to look at changing my instruction program. If you are interested I would be glad to provide you with more suggestions gratis! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
