Clear Creek High School

Summary:

Clear Creek High School is a public high school located in League City, Texas, serving around 2,400 students in grades 8-12. The school is part of the Clear Creek Independent School District, which is ranked 166 out of 968 districts in Texas and has a 4-star rating from SchoolDigger.

While Clear Creek High School has a diverse student population, its academic performance has seen a decline in recent years, dropping from a high statewide ranking of 310 out of 1,734 Texas high schools in 2013-2014 to 790 out of 1,987 in 2023-2024. The school's current 3-star rating from SchoolDigger is lower than the district's 4-star rating. This decline is concerning, especially given the school's relatively high spending per student, which is in line with the district's average. Interestingly, the school's performance varies significantly across different student subgroups, with Asian and White students generally outperforming their Hispanic and English Language Learner peers.

When compared to nearby schools within the same district, such as Clear Brook High School, Clear Springs High School, and Clear Lake High School, Clear Creek High School's performance is generally lower, with these schools tending to have higher statewide rankings, better test scores, and higher graduation rates. However, one bright spot is the school's exceptional performance among its Native American student population, which consistently ranks in the top quartile of Texas high schools.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote As a parent, I am very disappointed with the teacher quality at this school. I would estimate that 75% of the teachers spend class time talking about topics unrelated to the subject matter, are not capable of explaining the topics in depth, or unfairly favor certain student demographics over others. My son attended elementary and intermediate school in the same school district and the teachers there were much better than the teachers at this high school. Close Quote

Open Quote This school looks good on paper and from the outside. The teacher turnover rate is very high. Teachers have no support from the administration which directly affects the classroom. The level of education is very poor. Academics are sacrificed to athletics. TAKS means everything; when scores decrease, teachers are targeted and used a scapegoats. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
