Freeman Elementary

Summary:

Freeman Elementary is a public elementary school located in Irving, Texas, serving grades PK-5 with a total enrollment of 712 students. The school is part of the Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District (ISD), which is ranked 407 out of 968 districts in Texas and has a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Freeman Elementary has consistently ranked in the top half of Texas elementary schools, with a statewide ranking between 933 and 1793 out of over 4,500 schools in recent years. The school's performance on STAAR (State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness) tests is generally above the district and state averages, particularly in mathematics and reading for 5th-grade students. Freeman Elementary's Asian and English Language Learner (ELL) student subgroups consistently perform well, ranking in the top half or top third of Texas elementary schools in these categories. However, the school's African American and Hispanic student subgroups tend to perform below the state average, ranking in the bottom half or bottom third of Texas elementary schools.

While Freeman Elementary's overall academic performance is strong, there are significant disparities in the performance of different racial subgroups. The Asian and White student subgroups consistently outperform the African American and Hispanic student subgroups on STAAR tests and in statewide rankings. This highlights the need for the school and district to address these achievement gaps and ensure equitable educational opportunities for all students. Nearby Mockingbird Elementary, Canyon Ranch Elementary, and Valley Ranch Elementary, which are part of the Coppell ISD, consistently outperform Freeman Elementary on STAAR tests and have higher statewide rankings.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I enrolled my daughter in Freeman Elementary at the end of 2nd grade and i got amazing experience with school. My daughter liked all her teachers. She got excellent guidance for math and english. Teachers are so dedicated with every small event and studies as well. There are enough small projects for the students.
Principal is involved in all school activities.
At some point my daughter faced a small bullying incident but it was very well handled by the teachers. I need not to meet the teacher and my daughter never faced it again.
Students have access to chrome books and the school website have on line portal for English, math, science, spellings for PreK..etc. My daugther took all the benefit of the on-line portal.
I can happily give the school a thumbs-up and five stars. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
