Patton Elementary

Summary:

Patton Elementary is a public elementary school in Austin, Texas, serving 798 students in grades PK-5 as part of the Austin Independent School District. The school consistently ranks in the top 25% of Texas elementary schools, with a 4-star rating from SchoolDigger and strong academic performance, particularly in reading, math, and science.

Patton Elementary excels in the performance of its Asian and multi-racial student subgroups, ranking in the top 25% and top 10% of Texas elementary schools, respectively. However, the school struggles with its African American and low socioeconomic status student subgroups, ranking in the bottom 10% and bottom 50% of Texas elementary schools, respectively. This highlights the need for targeted interventions to address achievement gaps within the school's diverse student population.

Compared to nearby schools in the Austin Independent School District, such as Cunningham Elementary and Sunset Valley Elementary, Patton Elementary's academic performance is generally stronger. However, the school lags behind high-performing schools in the neighboring Eanes Independent School District, such as Cedar Creek Elementary, which consistently ranks among the top elementary schools in Texas.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Patton Elementary is a fantastic school! They teachers are very close with each other and work together to meet the needs of each student. My children have excelled since moving here from River Place Elementary last fall. There was a lot of bullying at River Place and my children no longer face those issues at Patton. They have excellent teachers who really care for each individual student. The previous review is not correct in regards to the supposed "kidnapping attempt". That issue did not even take place on the Patton campus, but rather down by the post office more than a quarter mile away. They are currently in transition of a new principal due to the fact the last principal excepted an option to transfer to a high school from the elementary school. So being that she had older children and it was closer to her home, she chose to transfer over. There are 2 FANTASTIC interim principals who have an open door policy and are ready to solve any issues brought to their attention. There has never been an issue of an attempted kidnapping at anytime at this school. Close Quote

Open Quote The school security is non existent! There was an incident back in September of a stranger trying to kidnap a young female student. (came out on austin news!) When kids get hurt parents are never notified, the teacher hardly sends them to the nurse either. She'll just put band aids on the kids herself which the parents provide as well! The school doesn't even have a permanent principal, I think the previous one was fired when the kidnapping incident occurred an they havent gotten around to hiring a new replacement. School curriculum consists of crossword puzzles an we never get any written homework. Ive never seen or heard of no homework the school is a joke! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
