Langford Elementary

Summary:

Langford Elementary is a public elementary school in Austin, Texas, serving 514 students in grades PK-6. The school is part of the Austin Independent School District (AISD), which is ranked 554 out of 968 districts in Texas and has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Langford Elementary consistently ranks among the lowest-performing elementary schools in Texas, with significantly lower STAAR test scores than the district and state averages across all grade levels and subject areas. For example, in 2023-2024, only 25.81% of 3rd-grade students were proficient or better in STAAR Reading, compared to 55.65% for AISD and 48.85% for Texas. The school's performance is particularly low in mathematics, with only 2.44% of 6th-grade students and 2.94% of 5th-grade students scoring proficient or better in STAAR Mathematics in 2023-2024. Langford Elementary has a very high percentage of economically disadvantaged students (97.08%) and English Language Learners, which may be contributing to its poor academic outcomes.

Interestingly, the nearby schools in the AISD district, such as Rodriguez Elementary, Palm Elementary, and Pleasant Hill Elementary, generally perform better academically than Langford Elementary, with higher STAAR test scores and better overall rankings. However, these nearby schools also serve a high percentage of economically disadvantaged students, suggesting that factors beyond just socioeconomic status may be contributing to Langford's poor performance. Despite additional funding and resources, Langford Elementary's academic performance has remained consistently low over the past several years, with little to no improvement in STAAR test scores or overall school rankings.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
