Arlington High School

Summary:

Arlington High School is a public high school located in Arlington, Texas, serving grades 9-12 with a total enrollment of 2,538 students. The school is part of the Arlington Independent School District, which is ranked 683 out of 968 districts in Texas and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Arlington High School has a diverse student population, with 48.11% Hispanic, 27.58% White, and 18.28% African American students. However, the school's academic performance, as measured by STAAR EOC (End of Course) exam proficiency rates, is generally lower than the district and state averages. For example, in 2023-2024, the school's proficiency rates ranged from 14.36% in Algebra I to 74.58% in U.S. History, compared to the district's 29.86% and 63.04%, and the state's 44.73% and 69.1%, respectively. Additionally, the school's four-year graduation rate has declined from 93.6% in 2018-2019 to 84.1% in 2022-2023, which is lower than the state average, and its dropout rate has increased from 1.7% in 2017-2018 to 4.0% in 2021-2022.

When compared to nearby schools, such as Arlington College and Career High School and Newman International Academy of Arlington Gibbins, Arlington High School's academic performance is generally lower, with significantly higher proficiency rates on STAAR EOC exams and higher graduation rates. The school's relatively high percentage of students from low-income families (67.06% in 2022-2023), coupled with its declining academic performance, suggests a need to examine the allocation of resources and support to address the unique needs of this student population.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Go to the City of Arlington's 4th of July parade and you will see which school has the PRIDE and COMRADERY. Even if not on this day, look around, how many green and white horse shoe stickers do you see on the cars. Yep, HOW SWEET IT IS TO BE IN COLT COUNRTY. One of the best highschools, maybe the oldest and outdated, but nothing can compare to their pride. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
