East Fort Worth Montessori Academy

Summary:

East Fort Worth Montessori Academy is a public charter elementary school serving 175 students in grades PK-5 in Fort Worth, Texas. The school is part of the Fort Worth Independent School District, which is ranked 658 out of 968 districts in the state and has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger.

While East Fort Worth Montessori Academy has a high percentage of economically disadvantaged students, with 77.71% qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch, the school's academic performance has been consistently below the state and district averages, particularly in mathematics. In 2023-2024, only 11.54% of 4th graders were proficient or better in STAAR Mathematics, compared to the state average of 44.67%. However, the school does perform better than nearby West Handley Elementary and Birdville Elementary in some areas, such as 3rd grade reading, where 56.52% of students were proficient or better in 2023-2024, compared to the Birdville Independent School District average of 32.84%.

Despite spending more per student ($11,294 in 2020-2021) compared to nearby district-run schools, East Fort Worth Montessori Academy has a higher student-teacher ratio (9.8 in 2022-2023) and has struggled to maintain consistent academic progress and improvement over time. The school's performance has fluctuated significantly, earning ratings from 0 to 3 stars out of 5 from SchoolDigger. Additionally, while the school's African American and Hispanic students perform better than their district and state peers, the large achievement gaps between these subgroups and the school's overall performance indicate that the school may not be effectively serving all student populations, particularly English Language Learners and economically disadvantaged students.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote This school is amazing. You get Montessori curriculum and philosophy, usually reserved for those who can afford private school tuition, offered by a public school. They have a great outdoor learning environment with a labyrinth, a pond, learning center, outdoor cooking area, flower gardens and a community garden where they grow food used in the dining hall. The children get to participate in raising goats, rabbits and chickens. The staff are warm and welcoming. The teachers go the extra mile. They do everything they can to make sure that my children are successful. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
