Cane Ridge High School

Summary:

Cane Ridge High School is a public high school serving 1,948 students in grades 9-12 in Antioch, Tennessee, which is part of the Davidson County school district. Despite its large student population, the school consistently ranks in the bottom quartile of Tennessee high schools, with a 0-star rating from SchoolDigger, indicating very poor academic performance compared to other schools in the state.

Cane Ridge High School struggles across various student subgroups, ranking in the bottom 10-20% of Tennessee high schools for African American, Hispanic, and White student performance, and in the bottom 1-2% for Asian students. The school's proficiency rates on state assessments are significantly below state and district averages across all subject areas and grade levels. For example, in 2023-2024, the school's proficiency rates were just 9.5% in Biology I for 10th grade (vs. 36.5% state average) and 7.4% in US History for 10th grade (vs. 23.7% state average). This persistent equity gap is a major concern.

Cane Ridge High School's academic performance lags significantly behind other nearby high schools, such as Glencliff High School, LEAD Southeast, Valor Flagship Academy, and Antioch High School, all of which demonstrate much stronger academic outcomes. This suggests that factors beyond just district-level resources may be contributing to Cane Ridge High School's struggles, which could be indicative of broader challenges with the school's climate and culture.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Cane Ridge is a pretty good school although like any other school it faces problems with fights. The classes are good and teachers actually care but some of the students aren't that great. Although if you find the right people to spend you high school years with you'll be fine, otherwise good luck. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
