Rosebank Elementary

Summary:

Rosebank Elementary is a public elementary school in Nashville, Tennessee, serving 411 students in grades PK-5. The school is part of the Davidson County school district, which is ranked 122 out of 139 districts in the state and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Rosebank Elementary has a diverse student population, with a higher percentage of African American (30.17%) and Hispanic (11.44%) students compared to the state average. The school has shown improvement in its statewide ranking, moving from the bottom 15% of Tennessee elementary schools in 2020-2021 to the top 32% in 2023-2024. However, its performance on standardized tests remains below the state and county averages, particularly in mathematics and English Language Arts. Interestingly, the school's performance is strongest in science, with proficiency rates exceeding the state and county averages in most grade levels.

Rosebank Elementary's diverse student population is not reflected in its academic performance, with significant gaps between White and minority students. The school's low performance of students from low socioeconomic backgrounds highlights the need for additional resources and support. Nearby schools, such as East End Preparatory School and Nashville Classical, demonstrate higher academic performance and rankings, despite serving similar student populations. Examining the practices and strategies employed by these higher-performing schools could provide valuable insights for Rosebank Elementary to improve its own performance.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote This school is a hidden gem in East Nashville. Over the past few years, with a new principle, a major renovation, and a STEAM Magnet grant, this school is certainly on the rise. My son is in Kindergarten and adores STEAM lab, music instruction, art and music class, and his classroom teacher. They work with a Vanderbilt engineer twice a month and he is excelling in every way. Test scores are, unfortunately, outdated at this point and not accurately reflecting what's happening in this school. This is the hidden gem of East Nashville. We love Rosebank! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
