Isaac Litton Middle

Summary:

Isaac Litton Middle is a public middle school in Nashville, Tennessee, serving 301 students in grades 6-8 and part of the Davidson County school district, which is ranked 122 out of 139 districts in the state.

While Isaac Litton Middle has a diverse student population, with 46.18% White, 26.58% African American, and 20.27% Hispanic students, the school has consistently ranked in the bottom half of Tennessee middle schools, with a ranking between 296-454 out of 580-594 schools over the past several years. The school's performance on state assessments is also below the Davidson County and Tennessee averages across all subject areas and grade levels. Interestingly, the school's special education students perform exceptionally well, ranking in the top 5% of Tennessee middle schools in the 2023-2024 school year.

Compared to nearby schools, such as Meigs Middle and Liberty Collegiate Academy, which demonstrate significantly higher academic performance, Isaac Litton Middle generally performs worse on academic measures, with lower proficiency rates and rankings. The school's declining performance over time and the significant disparities in performance between different student subgroups, particularly the low performance of African American, Hispanic, and English Language Learner students, suggest the need for targeted interventions and support to address the identified challenges.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote We live in the neighborhood but are zoned to a different school. We elected to send our kids here and have been very happy with it. The last four years have brought significant changes. Litton is becoming a school that people in the know are seeking out. You can see some of the trends in the graphs on your page. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
