Eakin Elementary

Summary:

Eakin Elementary is a public elementary school in Nashville, Tennessee, serving 524 students from kindergarten to 5th grade. The school consistently ranks in the top 20% of Tennessee elementary schools and has a diverse student population, with a racial makeup of 44.27% White, 34.73% African American, 5.92% Hispanic, 7.63% Asian, and 6.87% two or more races.

Eakin Elementary's academic performance is significantly higher than the Davidson County and Tennessee state averages across all subjects and grade levels. In 2023-2024, the school's proficiency rates in Mathematics (50.6%), English Language Arts (51.3%), and Science (52.7%) were all well above the county and state averages. The school's performance is particularly strong in 4th grade, where proficiency rates exceed 70% in all three subjects. This consistent academic excellence is noteworthy, especially given the school's diverse student population and the relatively low performance of the overall Davidson County school district.

While Eakin Elementary's overall academic performance is strong, there are significant disparities in the performance of different student subgroups. The school's performance for students with special education needs and those from low socioeconomic backgrounds is significantly lower than the state and county averages, as well as the school's own performance for other student groups. This suggests that the school may need to focus on addressing the unique needs of these student populations to ensure more equitable outcomes. Eakin Elementary's academic performance is notably stronger than many of the nearby schools in the Davidson County district, such as Cockrill Elementary, Robert Churchwell Elementary, and Carter-Lawrence Elementary, which all have significantly lower proficiency rates and statewide rankings.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Horrific administration. Untrained and only concerned with behavior. Administration knows very little about children with disabilities and causes so much trauma. There are no checks & balances and administration is not held accountable for their inappropriate choices & actions for neurotypical and neurodiverse students. Would never send children there unless under new administration. Some staff is appropriately trained, but a lot of them are also very unhappy with administration as well and this affects interactions with students & families and hinders how they can and cannot help students appropriately. So many unethical things taking place within administration and staff. School board has ever growing list of complaints about this leadership team in particular the principal. PLEASE DO CURRENT RESEARCH before choosing Eakin for your student!!! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
