Collierville High School

Summary:

Collierville High School is a public high school serving 2,836 students in grades 9-12 in the highly-ranked Germantown school district in Collierville, Tennessee. This exemplary school consistently ranks among the top high schools in the state, with students significantly outperforming the Tennessee average on standardized assessments across multiple subjects.

Collierville High School's academic excellence is evident in its strong performance, with 72.1% of students proficient or better in Biology I compared to the state average of 45.3%. The school's students excel particularly in English II, Algebra II, and Geometry, where proficiency rates far exceed state averages. Collierville High also stands out for its diverse student population, with a higher percentage of Asian and Hispanic students compared to surrounding schools like Cordova High School and Power Center Academy High School.

While Collierville High School's overall performance is exceptional, the school's ranking and proficiency rates for students from low-income families are lower compared to other subgroups. This suggests the need for additional strategies or resources to better support the academic success of economically disadvantaged students. Nevertheless, Collierville High School remains an exemplary institution, providing an equitable education and consistently ranking among the top high schools in the Germantown district and the state of Tennessee.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Collierville High School is not a good school. It is only a good school because of how bad other schools in the state of Tennessee are and how bad other schools in the United States are. The school also has a serious drug problem which no one seems to care or even want to discuss. I feel like everyone around me smokes weed and does drugs and acts like there is nothing wrong with it. Parents have no idea and are unaware. The administration focuses on the wrong issues at the school. If anything they should be focusing on the drug problem but they could care less. The teachers at this school are also horrible. I only had two teachers in my entire four years who really made a difference in my education. Main point is it is not a great school. I am very disappointed with everything about the school and have nothing good to say. Close Quote

Open Quote I will admit, the new campus is BEAUTIFUL!! However, this year feels more strict than before with the way administration is acting. They have been treating us like we’re in elementary school. The new school has all these beautiful chairs and what not, and we don’t even have time to sit down in them. They told us last year that they’d be more freedom in the new school, but the opposite has occurred. With the teachers, half of them are helpful with me learning in their class and half of them are not. Also, we have only FIVE minutes to get to class in that big building. It’s absolutely ridiculous because the campus is huge and getting from one side to the other is nearly impossible. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
