Old Pointe Elementary

Summary:

Old Pointe Elementary is a public elementary school in Rock Hill, South Carolina, serving students from pre-kindergarten to 5th grade as part of the York 03 School District. The school has seen fluctuations in its student racial makeup, with the current population being 46.13% White, 33.94% African American, 11.86% Hispanic, 2.14% Asian, and 5.93% two or more races.

Old Pointe Elementary has generally performed better than the state and district averages in English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics assessments, particularly in the upper elementary grades. However, the school's 5th-grade Mathematics proficiency rate of 20.2% was significantly lower than the state (45.8%) and district (42.2%) averages. The school's performance for its African American student population is relatively strong, ranking 105 out of 394 South Carolina elementary schools, but its performance for students of low socioeconomic status and disabled students has been weaker, ranking 284 out of 608 and 145 out of 151 South Carolina elementary schools, respectively.

While Old Pointe Elementary's performance is generally stronger than some nearby schools like Northside Elementary and Ebinport Elementary, it lags behind high-performing schools like Cherry Park Elementary School of Language Immersion and Mount Gallant Elementary. The school's per-student spending has increased, and the socioeconomic status of its student population has shifted, which may have contributed to its improved academic performance. However, addressing the disparities in subgroup performance and continuing to invest in resources and support for all students will be crucial for the school's continued improvement.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote My daughter attends here and is in the first grade. She started in kindergarten. We couldn't be happier with Old Pointe. Excellent, caring teachers who really take time with each student individually. I volunteer often and it's a very well run environment. My daughter loves going to school and always looks forward to what she will learn next! Close Quote

Open Quote Our girls went in 2012 and we simply were amazed! Awesome in every way! We moved for a year then made the effort to come back after one year at a school that just didn't compare.
WOW....sad how bad it is after just one year! The culture is different...not good. There is a new principal, not sure if thats it, but something put a skunk in the perfume!
My first grader must have an imaginary teacher....like, if you don't imagine something on the daily communications sheet....there won't be any! Our last child hates the 4k program now....after the first one absolutely loved it in 2012/13 {not b/c of the teacher its the school} She is petrified of being outside of the classroom and one new change is that the older sister can't walk the 4k down to her class....I understand the reasoning but just like medicine....at this young age....each case must be unique....this is just oversight or incompetence.
The teachers that were there in 2012 seem to be doing there best to maintain the environments in their classes, but the overall culture seems to have morphed into the "pest control guy that stops by to spray during the day while you are working hoping he doesn't have to talk to anyone or actually do a good job"
Somewhat indescribable how its changed,,,,but its definitely different....and NOT in good WAY! Equally SAD & PATHETIC! What a magnificent resource this jewel was for the Rock Hill Community.....and now after just one short year of decline! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
