Arcadia Elementary

Summary:

Arcadia Elementary is a public elementary school in Spartanburg, South Carolina, serving 373 students in grades K-5. The school stands out for its significantly higher Hispanic student population compared to nearby schools, as well as its consistently low academic performance and high spending per student.

Arcadia Elementary has struggled academically, ranking in the bottom 20% of South Carolina elementary schools for the past several years. Its proficiency rates in English Language Arts and Mathematics are significantly lower than the state and Spartanburg 06 district averages, with only 21.4% to 45% of students proficient in ELA and 24.2% to 31.7% proficient in Math across grades 3-5. This is in contrast to some nearby schools, such as West View Elementary, Woodland Heights Elementary, and The Cleveland Academy of Leadership, which perform significantly better on state assessments.

Despite the high spending of $13,466 per student at Arcadia Elementary, the school's academic performance remains low. This raises questions about the effective allocation and utilization of resources to support student learning and achievement. Additionally, the school's 100% free and reduced lunch rate, indicating that all students come from low-socioeconomic status backgrounds, is higher than the surrounding schools, which have rates ranging from 83% to 100%. Addressing the unique challenges faced by Arcadia Elementary, such as its declining performance and the needs of its diverse student population, will be crucial in improving outcomes for the school's learners.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Arcadia is a great school that is family oriented. The faculty and staff a true heart for the students that attend the school and go out of their way to help in any way. Arcadia has overcome many obstacles and met AYP for the last few years, even though the state keeps raising the bar to ridiculous heights that no one thought they would make it. Go Arcadia Elementary! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
