Summit Parkway Middle

Summary:

Summit Parkway Middle is a public elementary school located in Columbia, South Carolina, serving grades K-8 with a total enrollment of 1,154 students. The school is part of the Richland 02 School District, which is ranked 33 out of 75 districts in the state and has a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Summit Parkway Middle consistently outperforms the Richland 02 district and the state of South Carolina in various standardized test scores, particularly in EOCEP/Algebra 1/Mathematics for the Technologies 2, where the school achieved a 100% proficiency rate in 2023-2024, compared to 67.1% for the district and 72.5% for the state. The school also demonstrates stronger performance than the district and state in English Language Arts and Mathematics, with standout performances in 5th grade. Additionally, Summit Parkway Middle's performance in SCPASS Science is noteworthy, with 73.5% of 4th graders and 34.2% of 6th graders achieving proficiency, outpacing the district and state.

The school's ability to serve its African American and Hispanic student populations effectively is a notable strength, as evidenced by their high rankings among their respective peer groups. However, the relatively lower performance of the school's White student population compared to other subgroups suggests an area for potential improvement in ensuring equitable outcomes for all students. Summit Parkway Middle is well-resourced, with a higher per-student spending and a favorable student-teacher ratio, which may contribute to its consistent academic performance and ability to provide a more personalized learning experience for its diverse student population.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Our daughter has one good teacher. The rest are terrible. The worst one sometimes brings her infant to school and makes her math class sit in the dark in complete silence during class so as not to disturb the baby. Close Quote

Open Quote The teachers don't have control in the classrooms over noisy and disrespectful students which makes it hard for the respectful students to hear and focus. The teachers don't keep up with the grades online very well so you don't really know how your student is doing until the report card comes out. The magnet program and the teacher who runs it is good. About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
