As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Open Quote Poor school in a failing school district. My kids attended for about 6 months and there were so many problems that we ended up sending them to private school mid-year. I couldn't allow my kids to be brought down academically and socially while I wait on this school to get their act together. The schools are so bad in Indian Land that the principal of this school bought a home in the Fort Mill School District and sends her kids to school there but drives back and forth every day to her job as the principal at Indian Land Elementary. Open Quote I have a daughter in kindergarten at ILES and would give this school two stars but only for the outstanding principal who is my close friend as well. It is wrong that the staff do not appreciate what a wonderful person she is. If the principal chooses to purchase a home and reside in another county/school district then that is her right. Everyone's family is different and she has to do what works best for her kids and her family situation. No one should judge her decision. If I had the means then I might do the same for my child. Open Quote The staff are disrespectful toward the students. Bad enough that the staff are rude to the parents, but I draw the line when it comes to rude, inappropriate, and disrespectful behavior towards children. If you are considering purchasing a home in the IL area, add in the cost of private school for all of your kids because you will probably end up sending them to private school anyway after you experience IL schools. The excellent schools are in the next county. Do not let a realtor mislead you. Close Quote

Open Quote Serious lack of respect from the teaching staff and office because they constantly complain about having too many students and they are unfriendly to newcomers. More students coming into a school needs to be viewed as a positive. Change is a positive and more students mean more revenue and resources. Staff should be trained on how to handle influx of new students Close Quote

Open Quote Do not be fooled by these reviews. This is a poor school district and subpar. The schools with the excellent reputation are in Fort Mill and that is a completely different area. The awful schools do not justify climbing home prices in the IL area. I sent my kids to this school for 3 months and then decided to home school. It is really that bad. Technology and staff attitudes are about 20 years behind the rest of the planet. I found the teachers and staff to be racist, intolerant, and xenophobic. Also shocked to discover that the school lets church (not sure if it's more than one) sponsor after school clubs on site. Close Quote

Open Quote Overcrowded, poorly run. teachers and staff seem to have an "us vs. them" approach with the parents. With so many new families flocking to this area, it seems that the staff would be on their toes. That is not the case. If I have questions or my son has additional needs, the school takes weeks if not longer to even address my concerns. If my son wears the wrong item of clothing or brings the wrong snack, I hear about it immediately. I would love for the faculty and staff to put the same energy and zeal into educating my son because that is their purpose, notsnack and clothing police. Close Quote

Open Quote I am a proud parent of 2 children who have attended or attend ILES. Our experiences with the teachers and staff has been nothing short of exceptional. We are very pleased with how much are children are learning. The dress code is well received by parents and students. The principal (Mrs. Blum) is committed to creating a warm, accepting learning environment. My wife has volunteered as a room mom for each of the children's classes. She is in the school enough to know what is going on and she speaks highly of everyone. Close Quote

Open Quote We have found Indian Land Elementary to be an excellent school. The teachers and staff really care about the students. The PTA president is wonderful and the whole community is involved. The school has a great curriculum, I feel that if we were to move my children would have an edge due to their learning at ILE. This is a great place to live (we love it here) and a great place to send your children to school. Close Quote

Open Quote We moved here from the North East back in 2006, my son is now 10 and has attended Indian Land Elementary since kindergarden, there are no words for us to express how lucky we feel that he has been attending this school, I consider this school a terrific school, all the teachers truly care, the staff is great, the principal and assistant principal are beyond terrific, everyone in that school truly cares, it is amazing that any time there is an event, the school is always so organized and in control, in the 6 years of being here, I have never spoken to anyone that attends the school that is not happy with it, the people that talk negatively about the school, their kids don't even attend there. For anyone looking to move to the area, I highly recommend that you visit the school and see what the school is about. You won't be disappointed! Close Quote

Open Quote I love this school so much. We moved here from the north three years ago and were very nervous about the education our children would receive. I can not say enough good things about this school.

First of all, the teachers are amazing! We have not had any problems with any teachers and I have 3 children attending the school.

The principal is amazing! We have about 1400 kids in our school and I really think she knows every one of them by name. Go up there some day at dismissal and watch her, she says each ones name as they pass her to leave.

I spend a lot of time at the school volunteering and am very happy with the way the staff treats the children. If they follow the "Warrior Way" and bring a blue tickets to the office for their excellent behavior the entire office staff will stop what they are doing to ask the student what they got the ticket for and praise them. It really makes the kids feel special.

Academically, my children are learning way more than they did at their northern school. I am so happy to see them doing projects and presentations at such a young age. And they are really learning.

If you are considering moving to Indian Land our school is great! Close Quote

Open Quote I have been at this school for many years. When I first arrived here, like most northerners I was an elitist. Nothing was better than where we came from. What I came to find out is that we are a part of a huge school with a small town feel. The teachers are amazing. The majority of them have children that attend the school, which speaks volumes to me. The administration is different than what I was used to but I have to say, I love it.

We are a school of two cultures. There are those that have been here for years and those who arrived less than 10 years ago. We are different but I love that my children are getting to experience a slice of the "real world".

At the end of the day you want to know that all your child's needs are met. I can say without a doubt that all of that is happening at ILES and it gets better with every school year. Close Quote

Open Quote We have been very happy with ILES. We have two children attending there now and they have excelled within their environment. I attribute a lot of it to Principle Blum, but more importantly it's the teachers. They have a really high percentage of teachers with their master's degree, the curriculum and the class sizes have made Indian Land excel in test scores. I'd put my kids in any school to take any test and they would excel there because of what they have been taught here. Close Quote

Monday, March 5, 2012

Open Quote I have given more than the better part of the school year to see any kind of improvement; trying to avoid any early unfair judgment about this new school we are attending, to give it a chance. We moved to Indian Land last spring, after looking at school statistics and reading reviews here and other places I felt confident yet as the year goes on I feel as if I am in a parallel universe or something because our experience at this elementary school has been anything but excellent. It is not easy moving your children to a new area and even more so difficult when the school you’re attending lacks any kind of welcome or leadership what so ever. I was surprised considering the children are told to “follow the warrior way” yet teachers, office staff and including the principal are far from setting any kind of exemplary standard of kindness, welcome or consideration. From the day of registration, to the open house parent night neither teacher nor principal was interested in making my child, my husband or myself feel welcome to the new environment, or given any kind of direction. The Principal is the most unprofessional person I have ever witnessed from owning a facebook page where she chats with certain parents, to screaming at children, to allowing office staff to be rude. The screaming at children to intimidate, and I do mean screaming, is what I have the most trouble with, nationally we are teaching the kids not to bully and intimidate, yet she can? Lead by example I think not, not in this case. I have never known any child physiologist say that screaming at kids even when they are misbehaving get you anywhere other than them feeling intimidated, and belittled. Some warrior way? I wish I had known some of this before I bought a home in this area, I would have steered clear. I speak to many parents daily that have some of the same concerns and have either already moved out of the area or looking into it. Office staff is rude and provide no sense of secure knowledge of district policies or the importance of knowing each child. Wrong parents called for a sick child, not allowing you to pick up your child from school without attendance encumbrances even after 1:45 pm, miss-filing of attendance doctors excuse notes so the child is penalized under the districts strict attendance policy, bus children marked tardy when the buses are late (as if the child can help if the bus is late), unwillingness to discuss these matters with parents. Lastly the only focus of positive re-enforcement I have ever encountered is with the attendance, if your child is fortunate enough to not have caught a virus or the numerous lice infestations that go unreported to families at this school then they get many praises and accolades bestowed onto them, If they are a good student and receive the honor roll they do get a certificate of recognition yet receive a half hearted good job when it comes to any academic excellence, ALL focus is on the attendance and if you have perfect attendance…Unless you are well liked by the principal or a specific teacher then forget your child getting any positive compliment. This is the first time my child has stated she doesn’t like school and doesn’t look forward to going. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
