College Park Middle

Summary:

College Park Middle is a public middle school located in Ladson, South Carolina, serving grades 6-8 with a total enrollment of 714 students. The school is part of the Berkeley 01 School District, which is ranked 37 out of 75 districts in the state and has a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger.

College Park Middle faces several challenges, including a diverse and economically disadvantaged student population, lower-than-average academic performance, and persistent low rankings compared to other middle schools in the state. The school has a more diverse student population compared to nearby schools like Gregg Middle and Northwoods Middle, which tend to have a larger percentage of White students. However, College Park Middle's academic performance, as measured by standardized test scores, is generally lower than the state and district averages, with only 32.2% to 34.8% of students proficient or better in English Language Arts and 8.8% to 15.1% proficient or better in Mathematics, compared to state averages of 50.2% to 53.7% and 30.2% to 38.4%, respectively.

Despite these challenges, College Park Middle has a relatively favorable student-teacher ratio of 15.8, which is lower than the nearby schools, which range from 14.5 to 18.3 students per teacher. Additionally, the school has a relatively high per-student spending of $10,769 in the 2022-2023 school year, which is higher than the state average but lower than some of the nearby schools, such as Deer Park Middle ($18,502) and Northwoods Middle ($16,410). These factors may provide opportunities for targeted interventions and support to improve student outcomes, particularly in addressing the significant achievement gaps between different racial and ethnic groups at the school.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Absolutely horrible. I have been emailing my daughters teachers and principal for two weeks in regards to 20 ZERO's showing on the parent portal but none of them will return my emails. This is the type of issue that causes SC Schools to have a bad rep. Teachers and Principals who dont care about the students! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
