Boulder Bluff Elementary

Summary:

Boulder Bluff Elementary is a public elementary school in Goose Creek, South Carolina, serving 633 students in grades PK-5. The school is part of the Berkeley 01 School District, which is ranked 37 out of 75 districts in the state and has a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Boulder Bluff Elementary has a diverse student population, with a racial makeup of 29.07% White, 37.76% African American, 20.7% Hispanic, 0.95% Asian, 0.32% Native American, and 11.22% two or more races. However, the school's academic performance, as measured by state assessments, is generally lower than the district and state averages, particularly in English Language Arts and Mathematics for grades 3-5. The school's performance varies across different student subgroups, with African American students and students with disabilities performing relatively well compared to their peers statewide, while White students and low-socioeconomic status students struggle.

Boulder Bluff Elementary has a high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, with 100% of students qualifying in the 2022-2023 school year. This is significantly higher than nearby schools like Sangaree Intermediate and Howe Hall AIMS Elementary, which have lower free and reduced lunch rates. Additionally, Boulder Bluff Elementary has a relatively high per-student spending of $12,342, which is higher than the nearby schools. Despite these investments, the school's statewide ranking has been declining over the past several years, suggesting that targeted interventions and support may be needed to address the academic challenges and performance disparities observed at the school.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Very uncomfortable feeling having a send my child to the school. Lots of bullying and not enough consequences for the grown up actions these children are making. But are not Held responsible. Children cursing and talking like grown ups is not an unusual occurrence. Close Quote

Open Quote If you are a parent who wants to be involved in your child's school, have quality teachers, and a class your child can learn in without other students and teachers arguing, then don't move to this districts area. I would not recommend this school. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
