This is significantly higher than the school's overall ranking of 557 out of 1,526. The school has also seen a steady increase in spending per student, from $6,569 in 2018-2019 to $11,043 in 2021-2022, and maintains a relatively low student-teacher ratio, ranging from 15.9 to 16.9 over the past few years.

Compared to nearby schools, Windber Elementary School outperforms many of its neighbors, such as Conemaugh Valley Elementary School, which had only 31.8% proficient or better in PSSA Math, and Ferndale Elementary School in both Math and English Language Arts. However, the school's performance has fluctuated over the years, suggesting the need for consistent and sustained efforts to maintain and improve academic achievement. Nearby high-performing schools, such as North Star Central Elementary School and Conemaugh Township Area Elementary School, could serve as models for best practices that Windber Elementary School could potentially adopt.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote The staff doesn’t care about your rights as a parent an they don’t care about your child’s rights. The special education department should be shut down. An the head of the department should be removed an reprimanded for there actions. Stay clear of this school if you can. Move if you have too. I give them a negative 5 stars in my book. Ignoring state laws lying to cover up problems an not returning phone calls. They have forgotten that this is a public school an that we pay their salary’s. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
