B F Morey Elementary School

Summary:

B F Morey Elementary School is a public elementary school in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, serving 221 students in grades K-4 and part of the Stroudsburg Area School District. While the school has faced academic challenges, with consistently below-average performance on standardized tests, it serves a diverse student population with a high percentage of students from low-income families.

B F Morey Elementary School's academic performance has been a concern, with the school consistently ranking in the bottom half of Pennsylvania elementary schools and struggling to meet state and district averages in Math, Science, and English Language Arts. The school's performance is particularly concerning for certain student subgroups, such as Hispanic students and students from low-income families, who perform significantly below their peers. Nearby schools, such as Hamilton Township Elementary School, have consistently outperformed B F Morey Elementary, suggesting the need for a more equitable distribution of resources and targeted interventions to support struggling students.

The high percentage of students from low-income families at B F Morey Elementary, with 65.61% qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch, may be a contributing factor to the school's academic challenges. While the school's per-student spending has increased over the years, and the student-teacher ratio remains relatively low, the inconsistent performance trends over time suggest the need for a more comprehensive and sustained approach to school improvement, involving the school, district, and community stakeholders.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote My children (grades K & 2) are both new to the Stroudsburg School District this year. We absolutely love Morey Elementary. They make our children work hard at learning what they need to. They make it a fun & nurturing enviornment as well. They teach responsibility & respect, kindness & caring. Parent involvement is strongly encouraged & the PTA holds functions throughout the year so that parents can be involved in the school & meet the children our kids go to school with. I would recommend this school to anyone! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
