Friendship Elementary School

Summary:

Friendship Elementary School is a public elementary school in Glen Rock, Pennsylvania, serving students from kindergarten to 6th grade as part of the Southern York County School District. While the school has a relatively high spending per student, its academic performance, as measured by standardized test scores, is generally lower than the surrounding schools in the area.

Friendship Elementary School has a significantly higher percentage of white students (91.67%) compared to nearby schools like Shrewsbury Elementary School and Southern Elementary School, which have more diverse student populations. The school's proficiency rates in Math (48.3%) and English Language Arts (56.4%) are also below the state and district averages. Additionally, the school's performance for specific student subgroups, such as White students and students with low socioeconomic status, is lower compared to the surrounding schools.

Despite the relatively high spending per student at Friendship Elementary School, the school's academic performance is still below the nearby schools. This suggests that simply increasing funding may not be the sole solution, and a more comprehensive approach to improving educational outcomes may be necessary. The school's higher percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch (36.03%) may also be a contributing factor to its lower academic performance, as socioeconomic status is often correlated with educational outcomes. Addressing these challenges through targeted interventions and a holistic approach to school improvement could help Friendship Elementary School better serve its students and improve its performance.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote When we moved into the area 7 years ago it was equal to the other 3 elementary schools in the area and was ranked in the 200's. now it is ranked in the 600's. not good. I truly believe this is because of Common Core. I have had to reteach my daughter math, English grammar and cursive writing. They are very concerned with meeting the PSSA scores then teaching, They also baby the students. Letting them retake a test until they are correct. Many kids in my daughters class are confused. My daughter , also, has problems with other students bulling her, even though they have a non bulling program. My daughter tells me most teachers ignore the problems. Also, if you are from outside the area they ignore you. Which we are. They also do not have control of the class rm, kids are not focused, talking in class when class is going on, kids yelling out, braiding hair etc.. All this I saw on Parent visitation. School taxes are too high in PA and now they want to raise it. I'd rather take the $6000 in Taxes and put it towards a Catholic Education! I would not recommend this school. The high school here has gang problems and we are looking to move in summer of 2017. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
