Cambridge Springs Junior/Senior High School

Summary:

Cambridge Springs Junior/Senior High School is a public school serving grades 7-12 in the Penncrest School District, with 368 students located in Cambridge Springs, PA. The school has some areas of strength, such as its performance in PSSA Science and English Language Arts, but also faces challenges in Math and Keystone Exam performance.

While Cambridge Springs Junior/Senior High School performs well above the state average in PSSA Science and English Language Arts, it significantly underperforms the state average in PSSA Math, especially in 7th and 8th grade. The school's Keystone Exam results are also mixed, with students performing better than the district and state in Literature but lower in Algebra I and Biology. This suggests the school may have strengths in certain subject areas but struggles in others, which could be an area for further investigation and improvement.

Compared to nearby schools, Cambridge Springs Junior/Senior High School generally performs worse in Math and Science but better in English Language Arts than the other Penncrest School District schools. However, the school's performance is still below the top-performing nearby school, Fairview High School, which is ranked much higher statewide. Additionally, the school's higher percentage of low socioeconomic status students and lower rankings for this subgroup suggest that socioeconomic factors may be impacting student performance, an important consideration for the school and district in developing targeted interventions and support programs.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote There are very few teachers that are any good. They are all about themselves or the athletic department. Never seen so many unfair teachers.
The teachers bully the kids worse then the kids bully each other.
Would not recommend this school to anyone for their teenage kids.
This school has really gone down hill!!!!! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
