Bancroft Elementary School

Summary:

Bancroft Elementary School is a public elementary school serving grades 1-5 in the Kennett Consolidated School District in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania. The school has a diverse student population, with a majority Hispanic enrollment and strong academic performance that outpaces the district and state averages.

Bancroft Elementary consistently outperforms the Kennett Consolidated School District and the state of Pennsylvania in PSSA test scores across all grade levels and subject areas. In 2022-2023, the school had 62.1% of students proficient or better in English Language Arts, 52.3% proficiency in math, and 75.7% proficiency in science - all significantly higher than the district and state averages. Bancroft's White students performed exceptionally well, ranking 71st out of 1,236 Pennsylvania elementary schools, while its Hispanic students also performed well, ranking 171st out of 432 schools. However, the school's low socioeconomic status students ranked 964th out of 1,414 schools, indicating a need for additional support in this area.

While Bancroft Elementary outperforms the other Kennett Consolidated School District elementary schools, such as Greenwood Elementary and New Garden Elementary, it lags behind the high-performing schools in the neighboring Unionville-Chadds Ford School District, like Pocopson Elementary and Hillendale Elementary. The school's challenges in addressing the achievement gap for its low-income students present an opportunity for targeted interventions and resource allocation to ensure equitable outcomes for all students.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote 9/14/2015 Our 7 year old grandchild attends Bancroft Elementary School. Yesterday he came home from school and told his Mom and Dad he had a very good day at school. His parents met their child's classroom teacher, during Parents Night, and appreciated her positive teaching approach, happy personality and previous teaching experience. We as grandparents we are glad our grandchild attends a neighborhood school that has a diverse population. Bancroft Elementary School is a beautiful new facility. The landscaping is lovely. And the playground is attractive and safe. We believe test scores alone do not determine a school's value. Bancroft Elementary School is a great school ! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
