Crestview Elementary School

Summary:

Crestview Elementary School is a public elementary school located in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, serving 516 students from kindergarten to 5th grade. The school is part of the Carlisle Area School District, which is ranked 384 out of 610 school districts in the state and has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Crestview Elementary School has some academic strengths, with its students generally performing above the district and state averages on the Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA) tests, particularly in Math and Science. However, the school's overall ranking has declined in recent years, dropping from a high of 240 out of 1,467 Pennsylvania elementary schools in 2013-2014 to its current ranking of 877 out of 1,526 in 2023-2024. Compared to the higher-performing elementary schools in the neighboring Cumberland Valley School District, such as Silver Spring Elementary and Monroe Elementary, Crestview's academic performance lags behind.

One potential factor contributing to Crestview's lower overall performance may be its relatively high percentage of students from low socioeconomic backgrounds, with 51.16% of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch in the 2022-2023 school year. This suggests that the school may need to focus on addressing the academic needs of its diverse student population, including implementing targeted intervention strategies to help improve the performance of its economically disadvantaged students and close the achievement gap with the surrounding higher-performing schools.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote My kids have been at Crestview for 3 years and we love it. The principal is fantastic and everything always seems well organized. This is the largest elementary school n the Carlisle school district but the principal always greets my kids by name. She goes above and beyond. They just got a vice principal who seems wonderful as well.

We have not had any bad teachers here. They are all organized, have clear expectations for the kids and are caring.

Very happy that they have tiered reading and math groups for each grade/class. This has allowed my kids to actually learn about grade level and to be challenged. This is something that school does as part of their academic program. The gifted program is totally different (and not worth much in my opinion). Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
