Letort Elementary School's academic performance is mixed, with overall PSSA proficiency rates in Math (37.5%), Science (64.8%), and English Language Arts (51.3%) lower than the state averages. As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote We're a military family and our experience at LeTort has been fantastic - and confirms the advice we received from previous War College attendees. Starting the year, our 3rd grade son was behind in reading and spelling. His teacher and the staff supported him throughout the year. He is now an avid reader and his spelling is on grade level. They've also pushed him in subjects where he normally does well. The school does an amazing job of providing resources and assistance to parents so that parents can do their part as well. There are evening enrichment/fun/social activities on an almost monthly basis. It's been a great year for our son, and we're looking forward to him attending LeTort next year as well. Close Quote

Open Quote If you are a military family coming here for a year, avoid this school and enroll in the private school instead-St Pats, it will be worth the expense of not wasting a year. The elementary classrooms have terrible discipline problems from kids as young as 2nd grade who are violent, disruptive and lack all respect for authority. It is a precursor to a juvenile detention facility since that's where many of them end up in a few years after continuous visits by the principal to classrooms resulting in detention and expulsion. The principal is nice but overwhelmed with problem kids so he does not even know the good kids. The local bullies tip over desks, refuse to do school work and pick on new incoming kids. All of this negatively affects the good kids who want to succeed. Teachers try hard to deal with it and solve the problem of kids who are out of control by mixing seating arrangements of bad kids with the good kids who then have to suffer abuse and bullying. The only reason test scores are not last in the state at LeTort is mainly because of the military kids having academic standards prior to arrival. 2/3 of students get free or reduced lunch while military kids make up about 30% of the other student body -see a trend? It has been a bad experience for our kids and the worst school by far they have been in over the past decade after moving all over the country every few years for the military. Close Quote

Open Quote We are a military family and only here a year. Our daughter is in 3rd grade, and LeTort is fantastic. It's not easy transitioning from school to school as a kid, but this staff goes out of its way to make you feel welcome. Aaron Carmichael the principal has such high energy, and also great interaction with all the kids. He holds kids accountable, and has the respect of every parent, teacher and student. We will be sorry to leave. Go Rams! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
