Boyertown Area Senior High School

Summary:

Boyertown Area Senior High School is a public high school serving 2,158 students in grades 9-12 in Boyertown, Pennsylvania, which is part of the Daniel Boone Area School District. The school has consistently ranked in the top 30% of Pennsylvania high schools, with a mix of academic performance on state exams compared to the state average.

Boyertown Area Senior High School maintains a strong four-year graduation rate of over 90%, which is higher than the state average, and a low dropout rate. However, the school's performance on Keystone Exams has fluctuated, with lower proficiency in Algebra I but higher proficiency in Biology and Literature compared to the state. The school serves a predominantly white student population, with a relatively low percentage of students eligible for free or reduced-price lunch, suggesting a higher socioeconomic status compared to the state. While the school performs well compared to nearby schools like Perkiomen Valley High School and Owen J Roberts High School, it lags behind these schools in graduation rates.

Boyertown Area Senior High School's student population is less diverse than nearby schools, which may be a concern as research suggests diverse school environments can provide valuable learning experiences. The school's performance also varies across different student subgroups, with stronger results for students with disabilities but lower rankings for Hispanic and low socioeconomic status students. Addressing these areas could help the school further improve and better serve its diverse student population.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote This is the worst school in the district! I have a daughter who is due to graduate June 2014. Last year she was continually bullied by children who threatened her life on a daily basis and the school administration did nothing about it. When she called 911 because they said they had a gun, she was the one reprimanded without me being notified. This year they are not allowing her to take her boyfriend to prom because he was punched in the face and if the student doing the punching is there it might be a problem. My daughter is a 4.0 student and her boyfriend is in the military. They are good kids who deserve to be punished. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
