Agora Cyber Charter School

Summary:

Agora Cyber Charter School is a public virtual charter school located in King of Prussia, PA, serving grades K-12 with a total enrollment of 4,957 students. While the school offers an alternative educational model, it faces significant challenges in terms of academic performance, graduation rates, and supporting its students, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Agora Cyber Charter School's 4-year graduation rate has ranged from 50.5% to 87.5% over the past few years, which is significantly lower than the state average of around 87%. Additionally, the school has had dropout rates ranging from 1.6% to 8.8%, higher than the state average. Academically, Agora Cyber Charter School consistently performs well below the state average on PSSA and Keystone exams across all subjects and grade levels, with only 5.9% of its students proficient or better in PSSA Math compared to the state average of 40.4% in 2023-2024. The school's higher per-student spending and student-teacher ratio compared to the state average suggest that the resources are not translating into improved outcomes for students.

Interestingly, the nearby cyber charter schools, such as ASPIRA Bilingual Cyber Charter School, Esperanza Cyber Charter School, and Pennsylvania Leadership Charter School, also have relatively low academic performance compared to the state averages, indicating that the challenges faced by Agora Cyber Charter School may be common among cyber charter schools in the region.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I have been teaching high school since 2002. I joined Agora one year ago and I love this school. There is a high concern for students and a great communication here. I am very impressed with the administration. The salary isn't that hot, but the benefits are good and the staff and faculty are very friendly. I'm convinced that cyber is the education of the future and that many students flourish here. If you are a parent, make sure you are willing to help your student stay focused to succeed. If you can't get your student to clean his or her room, maybe they aren't self-disciplined enough yet to do cyber school. This is a great school! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
