Montessori Regional Charter School

Summary:

Montessori Regional Charter School is a public charter school serving 583 students in grades K-8 in Erie, Pennsylvania. While the school has a diverse student population, it consistently underperforms compared to state and local averages on academic measures, with low proficiency rates on standardized tests and poor statewide rankings.

Montessori Regional Charter School's academic performance is a significant concern, with only 23.2% of students proficient or better in Math and 36.8% proficient or better in English Language Arts, compared to state averages of 39.3% and 53.8% respectively. The school's performance lags behind nearby public schools like Chestnut Hill Elementary School and the Millcreek Township School District. Montessori Regional Charter School also struggles to support certain student subgroups, ranking in the bottom quarter of Pennsylvania elementary schools for low socioeconomic status students and disabled students.

The school's high poverty concentration, with 100% of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, may contribute to its academic challenges. Additionally, the school's diverse student population, with higher percentages of African American and Hispanic students compared to nearby districts, suggests the need for targeted support and resources to ensure all students succeed. Overall, Montessori Regional Charter School faces significant hurdles in improving student outcomes and providing a high-quality education to the community it serves.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote My child loves going to school each day! The teachers, principal, and staff are wonderful. They are very dedicated, professional, and kind. The school has made AYP every year, helps the community, and offers breakfast for free to every student. Close Quote

Open Quote This is a great public school...my children are excited about learning and I know that they are safe and happy every day. The building is older and they are still growing, which can be a problem, but everyone makes a big effort to get things done right. I am so satisfied and I know that this foundation will make them great students in middle and high school. So glad I found it and got in through the lottery. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
