Destinations Academy

Summary:

Destinations Academy is a public high school located in Coos Bay, Oregon, serving grades 9-12 with a total enrollment of 55 students. It is part of the Coos Bay School District 9, which is ranked 97 out of 140 districts in Oregon and has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Destinations Academy has consistently ranked in the bottom quarter of Oregon high schools, with a ranking of 236 out of 268 schools in the 2023-2024 school year and a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger. In comparison, the nearby Marshfield Senior High School, also in the Coos Bay School District 9, has a higher ranking of 160 out of 268 schools and a 2-star rating. Destinations Academy's proficiency rates in English Language Arts (33.3%), Mathematics (8.3%), and Science (8.3%) for 11th-grade students in 2023-2024 are significantly lower than the district and state averages.

While Destinations Academy has a relatively low student-to-teacher ratio of 15.7 students per teacher in the 2022-2023 school year, its per-student spending of $8,088 in the 2021-2022 school year is significantly lower than the $23,424 spent per student at Marshfield Senior High School. This suggests that the school may face challenges in providing a high-quality education to its students, and there may be opportunities for improvement through targeted interventions and resource allocation.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Students are allowed to do whatever they want and are given credits just for showing up. Drug use is allowed on campus by the principle. Laws and rules are not enforced. Students can leave campus whenever they want and are marked here. Bullying is ignored and victims of bullying are blamed or told they imagined it. Multiple people have transfered because of this. This school is a joke. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
