Clatskanie Middle/High School has shown mixed academic performance compared to the state averages. The school's relatively high percentage of low-income students, as indicated by the free and reduced-price lunch rate of 43.3%, suggests that socioeconomic factors may be impacting academic outcomes, with low socioeconomic status students at the school struggling compared to their peers statewide.

Clatskanie Middle/High School has a student-teacher ratio of 14.9 in 2022-2023, which is higher than Vernonia High School (13.8) but lower than Rainier Junior/Senior High School (19.0). The school spent $20,533 per student in 2021-2022, which is higher than the nearby Rainier Junior/Senior High School ($16,228 per student) but lower than Vernonia High School ($23,220 per student). These differences in funding and resources suggest that factors beyond just funding, such as school leadership, curriculum, and instructional practices, may be contributing to the variations in academic performance between these schools.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Teachers do not go out of their way to help students succeed. They can be failing every class and still be allwoed to participate in sports, which I dont think that should be allowed. As a parent I want my child to succeed and when there are problems they get pushed to the side and nothing is resolved. Teachers are just there because its their job, when they should want to see the children do well and when a child is struggling, from what I have noticed, they just dont care. They dont go out of their way to attempt to even want to figure it out. Its all the childs fault when that may not be the case at all. All of the staff children are treated differently and are all stright A students and why is that? And why is this school unranked? I thought that teachers are there because they love kids and love to teach, but I have yet to see that at this school and it is really sad. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
