Rosland Elementary

Summary:

Rosland Elementary is a public elementary school located in La Pine, Oregon, serving grades K-5 with a total enrollment of 255 students. The school is part of the Bend-LaPine Administrative School District 1, which is ranked 31 out of 140 school districts in Oregon and is rated 4 stars out of 5 by SchoolDigger.

Rosland Elementary has consistently ranked in the bottom half of Oregon elementary schools in recent years, with a ranking of 666 out of 710 schools in the 2023-2024 school year. The school's performance on state assessments (OSAS) is significantly below the district and state averages across all grade levels and subject areas, with only 20% of 3rd-grade students proficient or better in English Language Arts, compared to 51.2% in the district and 39% statewide. The school's performance is particularly low for male students, white students, and students from low socioeconomic backgrounds. Rosland Elementary has a high percentage of students from low-income families, with 65.1% of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch in the 2022-2023 school year.

Interestingly, the nearby Three Rivers Elementary School and LaPine Elementary School, which are also part of the Bend-LaPine Administrative School District 1, significantly outperform Rosland Elementary on state assessments across all grade levels and subject areas. This suggests that the challenges faced by Rosland Elementary may be unique to the school and not necessarily reflective of the overall performance of the district. The lower per-student spending and higher student-teacher ratio at Rosland Elementary compared to the nearby schools may also be limiting the school's ability to provide the necessary resources and support for its students.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Your child will not be properly supervised at this school BEWARE!! Nothing is done about bullying, in fact they will go to the ends of the earth to depend the bully. My child has been hurt WEEKLY and nothing has ever been done about it I have spoken with staff and all treat assaults as "kids will be kids". Teachers and principle have a legal obligation to keep your kids safe at school and that isn't happening here AT ALL. Curriculum is also lacking...no homework....and zero efforts to get parents involved in school happenings. If you have to send your child to this school, may the odds be ever in their favor! About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
