Meadow Park Middle School

Summary:

Meadow Park Middle School is a public middle school located in Beaverton, Oregon, serving grades 6-8 with a total enrollment of 697 students. The school is part of the Beaverton School District 48J, which is ranked 19 out of 140 districts in Oregon and has a 4-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Meadow Park Middle School has consistently underperformed compared to the Beaverton School District and the state of Oregon in standardized test scores for English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics. For example, in the 2023-2024 school year, only 26.1% of 6th graders, 27.9% of 7th graders, and 22.7% of 8th graders were proficient or better in ELA, compared to the district's 48.8%, 51.3%, and 46.1%, respectively. The school's performance in Mathematics is even lower, with only 18.6% of 6th graders, 20.3% of 7th graders, and 18.8% of 8th graders scoring proficient or better, compared to the district's 43.1%, 43%, and 35.5%. Meadow Park Middle School's performance varies significantly across different student subgroups, ranking highly for Asian students and Gifted and Talented students, but struggling with Hispanic students and Special Education students.

Meadow Park Middle School's statewide ranking has steadily declined over the past several years, from a high of 74 out of 383 Oregon middle schools in the 2015-2016 school year to a low of 296 out of 371 in the 2023-2024 school year. When compared to other middle schools in the Beaverton School District, such as Stoller Middle School and Tumwater Middle School, Meadow Park Middle School consistently underperforms, with proficiency rates in ELA and Mathematics that are 30-40 percentage points higher. The school's high percentage of free and reduced-price lunch recipients, reaching 65.42% in the 2022-2023 school year, suggests that the school may be serving a more economically disadvantaged population, which could contribute to the academic challenges the school is facing.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I think your experience depends on your perspective and expectations of the school. I think the SUMA programs spends quality time equipping the kids with a quality education. Students who do not participate in the SUMA program, well I think they are receiving a mediocre education at best. Not necessarily the fault of the school mind you, the district chooses what to put into which schools. This school has limited after school offerings, which means limited student interest. I think they need to work harder in implementing more after school clubs and activities on school grounds. I also think there needs to be mandatory homework every night. I know kids don't want to do it, but they are not being exposed to real-life experiences by not giving them homework. College has homework. Even many professions require some element of of "home work". Overall, I'm disappointed with Meadow Park. I think the Beaverton School district (Oregon state as a whole) needs to make school choice a higher priority allowing for more charter schools to be built and giving parents and student more choices in obtaining state funded, charter education. About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
