While Ashland High School outperforms the state average in many metrics, some nearby schools, such as Crater School of Business Innovation and Science, also demonstrate strong academic performance. This suggests that the Ashland School District and the surrounding districts are committed to providing high-quality education. Ashland High School's strong focus on equity, combined with its investment in education and low student-teacher ratio, contribute to its success. However, the school's performance for low socioeconomic status students and gifted and talented students could be an area for further investigation and potential improvement.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I wish zero was an option. We originally sent all three of our children to Ashland High School. Our son graduated in 2020 and his experience was okay. In fact back when he was a freshman or sophomore I felt proud to say he attended AHS. My husband and I have been big supporters of Ashland Schools for many years by volunteering and financial donations to both educational and sports programs.
I can honestly say this high school is currently a horrible environment. We transferred both of our daughters from AHS to different schools last year. Luckily, they are thriving in their new schools. I won’t go into detail about the school but will say that the students are in charge and the focus is not on education. If you prefer your student focuses on gender, pronouns, bullying, and in general creating chaos in the classroom it may be a good fit. Keep in mind parents will not get support from AHS staff if your child doesn’t agree to it. Again, children are in charge.
Sad to see this school become such a disappointment. Maybe someday it will return to some version of what it use to be. Luckily, I no longer have to worry about it. This message is meant for prospective families to read and consider before deciding Ashland High School is the right place for their kids. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
