Tinker Elementary School

Summary:

Tinker Elementary School is a public elementary school in Midwest City-Del City, Oklahoma, serving grades PK-5 with a student population of 378. The school faces several challenges, including declining academic performance, high rates of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, and lower spending per student compared to nearby schools.

Tinker Elementary's academic performance, as measured by the OSTP assessments, is generally below the state and Midwest City-Del City district averages. For example, in 2023-2024, only 44% of 3rd graders and 35% of 5th graders were proficient or better in English Language Arts, compared to the state averages of 51% and 46%, respectively. The school's statewide ranking has also declined over the years, from 45th out of 498 schools in 2015-2016 to 371st out of 389 schools in 2023-2024.

While Tinker Elementary has a diverse student population, the school's performance shows significant disparities. The school's spending per student was $8,764 in 2018-2019, which is lower than the nearby Soldier Creek Elementary and Del City Elementary schools, which have higher proficiency rates on the OSTP assessments and better statewide rankings. Addressing these challenges will be crucial for improving the educational outcomes for the students at Tinker Elementary School.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Zero structure or discipline compared to other (better rated) schools in the local area. If you've moved in this area, I highly suggest you seek to enroll your child out of district. My child (who liked school previously) immediately started to dislike school, complained of how loud it was, the teachers wouldn't correct other children. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
