Dewitt Waller Middle School

Summary:

Dewitt Waller Middle School is a public middle school in Enid, Oklahoma, serving 735 students in grades 6-8 as part of the Enid School District, which is ranked 184 out of 295 districts in the state.

Dewitt Waller Middle School stands out for its diverse student population, with a higher percentage of minority students compared to nearby Longfellow Middle School and Emerson Middle School. The school has consistently outperformed the Enid and Oklahoma state averages on OSTP assessments, particularly in English Language Arts and Mathematics. However, the school's racial diversity has declined in recent years, and its statewide ranking has fluctuated, suggesting that factors beyond just academic achievement may influence its performance.

While Dewitt Waller Middle School outperforms the district and state, it lags behind the high-performing Chisholm Middle School, which is ranked 6th out of 149 Oklahoma middle schools and has significantly higher proficiency rates. Additionally, the school's performance varies across different student subgroups, with Hispanic and low-income students performing below their White and more affluent peers. These insights suggest that Dewitt Waller Middle School has room for improvement and could benefit from targeted interventions to support the academic success of all its students.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I loved going to Waller. It made my 6th grade year great. I made many friends and I miss them so much. Waller has tons of teachers who really want me to learn and that is what I miss a lot. They really allow the students to be a part of the school. Close Quote

Open Quote This school has done wonders for my son from the time he started 6th grade. He is handicapped and had to go threw a major surgery this year (which he is now in 7th grade) and has missed quit a bit of school due to all this but they gave him work to keep him caught up and informed about what they were doing in his classes. Everyone has been so understanding threw this hectic prosses and everything we have been threw. As a parent all you want is the very best for your child and I believe with the guidance we had during the transition to middle school, we couldn't have made a better decision than putting him in such a wonderful school as this one. I would recommend this school to anyone who is looking for a great middle school to put they're child in. I can't say enough about how well the staff is at this school. I mean this sincerely, thank you from the bottom of my heart for all you do!! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
