Chisholm Elementary School is a high-performing public elementary school in Edmond, Oklahoma, serving grades PK-5 with a total enrollment of 864 students. The school has consistently ranked among the top elementary schools in Oklahoma, with a 5-star rating from SchoolDigger for several years.

Chisholm Elementary stands out for its exceptional academic performance, consistently outperforming the Edmond district and the state of Oklahoma in standardized test scores across all grade levels and subject areas. For example, in the 2022-2023 school year, 67% of 3rd graders, 47% of 4th graders, and 61% of 5th graders were proficient or better in English Language Arts, compared to 46%, 35%, and 47% in Edmond, and 29%, 24%, and 28% statewide. Additionally, Chisholm Elementary has a relatively low percentage of students eligible for free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 9.98% to 17.82% over the past three years, significantly lower than some nearby schools like Sunset Elementary (63.88%) and Ida Freeman Elementary (70.26%).

The school's success is further highlighted by its relatively low student-teacher ratio, ranging from 16.8 to 18.5 over the past three years, lower than the ratios of some nearby schools like Sunset Elementary (20.4) and Northern Hills Elementary (18.4). The proximity of Chisholm Elementary to other high-performing schools, such as Russell Dougherty Elementary and Clegern Elementary, presents an opportunity for collaboration and sharing of best practices, which could help to raise the academic performance of the lower-performing schools in the Edmond district.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote My daughter attended PreK here. The teachers are excellent. You cannot get better! Since I am a former elementary ed. teacher I am quite picky. The student/teacher ratio is horrible 20 to 1. In PreK they do have an assistant though. This is a problem in all the schools in OK so you cannot really factor that in. I was very pleased (except for the number of children one teacher had to teach.) Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
