Silver Creek Elementary School

Summary:

Silver Creek Elementary School is a public elementary school in Toledo, Ohio, serving 653 students in grades K-6 and part of the Washington Local School District.

While Silver Creek has a higher percentage of White students compared to nearby schools, its academic performance, as measured by state test scores, is generally lower than the district and state averages across various grade levels and subjects. For example, in 2023-2024, only 48.4% of 5th-grade students at Silver Creek were proficient or better in Science, compared to 65.7% in the Washington Local district and 64% statewide. Silver Creek has also experienced a significant increase in chronic absenteeism, rising from 6.9% in 2019-2020 to 25.8% in 2022-2023, which is higher than the surrounding schools.

When comparing Silver Creek to nearby schools like Greenwood Elementary School, McGregor Elementary School, and Meadowvale Elementary School, it becomes evident that Silver Creek's academic performance is generally lower across various subjects and grade levels. This suggests that there may be systemic challenges within the school or district that are impacting student achievement, and addressing the root causes of the high chronic absenteeism could be an important area of focus for the school.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I do not like this old school nor do I like the traffic and pick up situation!! A child is going to get hit running to the carryout, while the parents are overcrowding to pick up their children. When they could easily have PAVED OR SUPPLIED US WITH AMPLE PARKING ACROSS THE STREET. And have a adult guard to safely cross our children!! The drop off is a joke, the loop is a joke and no light to help anyone out.The thing they call a loop is ridiculis!! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
