Reynolds Elementary School

Summary:

Reynolds Elementary School is an alternative public school located in Toledo, Ohio, serving grades K-12 with a total enrollment of 348 students. The school has a diverse student population, with a racial makeup that includes 13.79% White, 65.52% African American, 7.18% Hispanic, 0.57% Asian, and 12.93% two or more races.

Despite its small class sizes, with a student-teacher ratio ranging from 13.8 to 15.8, Reynolds Elementary School faces significant challenges. The school has consistently high chronic absenteeism rates, ranging from 55.6% to 64.3%, which is significantly higher than the Toledo City district average and the state average. Additionally, the school's academic performance, as measured by proficiency rates on Ohio State Tests, is significantly lower than the Toledo City district and the state averages across all grade levels and subject areas. For example, in 2023-2024, only 6.9% of 5th-grade students were proficient or better in Science, compared to 32% for Toledo City and 64% for the state.

When comparing Reynolds Elementary School to nearby schools, such as the Toledo Public Schools Virtual Academy and the Horizon Science Academy Toledo, it becomes evident that Reynolds is underperforming academically. These nearby schools have significantly higher proficiency rates on Ohio State Tests across various grade levels and subject areas. Addressing the root causes of the high chronic absenteeism rates and improving resource allocation could be crucial steps in enhancing the school's overall performance and outcomes.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
