Mifflin Alternative Middle School faces significant challenges, with consistently high chronic absenteeism rates ranging from 67.9% to 88.4% over the past few years. The school's academic performance, as measured by proficiency rates on Ohio State Tests, is also significantly below the state and district averages across all grade levels and subject areas. However, the relatively small class sizes at Mifflin Alternative Middle School, with a student-teacher ratio ranging from 11.4 to 13.8, suggest that there may be opportunities for the school to implement targeted interventions and strategies to improve student outcomes. Collaboration with successful neighboring schools or the Columbus City Schools District could potentially provide valuable insights and resources to support the school's improvement efforts.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote This was my son's first and LAST year at Mifflin. I have never seen childeren so out of control. I visited during school hours. When the kids was moving to the next class they were so out of control. I was waiting on my son in the office and a student was cursing at the assistant principle threatening to push him down the stairs and Mr.Lam did nothing said nothing. I did love a couple of his teacher, they really seemed to care and you don't find that to often. Do not send your child here!!! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
