Nathan Hale School faces significant challenges. It has a predominantly African American student population, ranging from 94.93% to 97.24% over the past three years, which is much higher than the state average and nearby Village Preparatory School Woodland Hills and Phoenix Village Academy Primary 2 dba Wings Academy 1. Academically, the school consistently performs below state and district averages on Ohio State Tests, with proficiency rates ranging from 0% in 8th grade math to 50% in 3rd grade math, compared to state averages of 46.3% to 62.1%. Additionally, Nathan Hale School has experienced extremely high chronic absenteeism rates, ranging from 34.2% to 70.0%, which is significantly higher than the state and district averages.

When compared to other Ohio elementary schools, Nathan Hale School ranks in the bottom quartile for most student subgroups, including female students, male students, special education students, and low socioeconomic status students. Despite spending $11,944 per student, which is higher than the nearby charter schools, the school has consistently ranked in the bottom 10-15% of Ohio elementary schools over the past decade, with a 0-star rating from SchoolDigger for most of this period. These challenges suggest that the school may be facing unique obstacles in addressing the needs of its student population and effectively allocating resources to improve academic outcomes.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Well, I think that Nathan Hale is a good school now because their rules have gotten a lot more strict. They've torn down the Nathan Hale on Martin Luther King jar. Dr. And is now located on E. 116th St. & Union, 44105(Genesis School). They now have more security, such as a metal detector and 2 security guards. They are now expelling the constantly troubled students. Compared to last year, Nathan Hale has changed A LOT!!! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
